Contingency planning and a strong attention to metrics are vital to the growth of any business. Picking the right numbers to pay attention to is a mandatory skill to long term sustainability. Either learn how to do it right or die trying.

The exit strategy is important because sometimes the owner is not ready to completely phase out or is such an important part of the business that it’s risky to lose the knowledge, history, and experience too abruptly. Your points are valid. Good article.
