Insurance is one of the most important considerations for anyone today. This is the main reason why increasing insecurity has capitalized itself in the form of one of the largest growing industries in the world. However, with that in hindsight, doing insurance for others and obtaining one for yourself or your kith and kin is a pole apart scenario.
The latter is relatively easy; the former cannot be. As an insurance professional, you have to take the highest regard for other people’s time, value, money, and investments. Insurance today is not only a risk cover but an essential prerequisite in regard to timely investments.
In Pennsylvania, the insurance sector is shaped within the legal framework in such a manner that it can accommodate the standard of care and caution that is required and expected. Therefore, obtaining a pa insurance license is a tough task, given the fact that the requirements of rigor and commitment to quality are expected at the highest level.
Here most candidates fail to succeed. Thus, if you are sure of the goals you want to achieve and the commitment you can dedicate to the profession, then the following must be borne in mind –
How Can You Fulfill Your Insurance Pre-licensing Course?
Pennsylvania state framework policy regarding the insurance licensing is integral to every aspirant because before taking the state licensing exam, you must cover the pre-licensing examinations. Pre-licensing education requirement of 24 hours to complete the entire course and 3 hours must be from an approved ethics course. Some course’s commitment hour details are as follows –
- Life (24 hours)
- Accident and Health (24 Hours)
- Property (24 hours)
- Casualty (24 hours)
- Personal Lines (24 hours)
Only three types of Methods of Education are deemed acceptable, i.e., Classroom, Self Study, and Online. Furthermore, the framework stipulates two requirements for the Online Course Two type of Online Course:
1. Forced Progression
In this mode, the examinee or the candidate must complete each page of the online module mandatorily. Only upon the successful completion of each page is the user allowed to proceed any further.
2. Proctor
In this mode, a non-interested third party is involved in the monitoring of the course. Also known as a Proctor, this non-interested third party can not be a family relation, a direct supervisor, or directly supervised by the candidate by virtue of the position. Such as proctor has to monitor the certification examination process under his watchful eye. Only upon successful completion of the self-study courses can the degree be earned completed and issued.
Exceptions to the Pre-Licensing Education
The following certifications or designation are generally exempt from pre-licensing education and examination.
- Life or Accident and Health – CLU
- Assets, Casualty, or Accident and Health – CPCU
- Life, Accident, and Health or Property and Casualty -CIC
It is worth noting that merely adding a singular line of authority does not of its own accord create the need for pre-licensing education. However, the candidate must take their copy of the current producer license to the examination center.
How To Pass Your Pennsylvania Licensing Exam?
If the candidate has completed their pre-licensing course, they need to pass the state licensing exam. For this, the following factors are important to ensure proper compliance.
Requirements For Certificate of Completion–
- To receive a certificate of completion, candidates must qualify for the final examination under supervision.
- The education providers then have to ensure that the pre-licensing education credits are reported to PSI within the next 15 working days.
- After that, the candidate will be provided a certificate of completion within the next 30 business days after completing the course and due compliance with all other requirements.
- To evidence their successful completion, the candidates are required to showcase their pre-licensing education requirements at the testing center.
- Certificates of Completion shall remain valid for one year from the date of completing the course.
- Candidates are also required to keep the certificates of successful completion of the course for 6 years from the date of completion.
3. State Reporting Fees
The Pennsylvania Department of Insurance mandates that the candidates deposit a course reporting fee of $5/course, regardless of online, self-study, or classroom courses. The amount is charged through automatic deductions on the last credit card you had used in the account. The said deductions will be remitted every time a candidate completes an online, self-study, or classroom course.
Bottomline
Candidates aspiring to obtain the license must check for changes in the existing regulatory framework or revision of fees or application procedures. Furthermore, you must check your home state’s respective norms if you are not a naturalized citizen of Pennsylvania.
In that regard, you will also have to consider the ramifications of application or re-application for the license as the case may be.
